Therapeutic Touch Counselling

Amallie De Fonseka is a licensed Masters Social Worker with over 21 years of experience in a variety of counselling roles. She is a Toronto native and graduate of the University of Toronto with a Masters in Social Work degree, and a Bachelors of Social Work degree from the University of Windsor. She also holds a Bachelors of Arts with Honours degree from Queens University. She is licensed with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers since 2003, and the State of Michigan since 2012. She remains a member in good standing with both licensing bodies. Amallie has extensive experience helping people overcome anxiety, depression, complex trauma, anger management, family and relationship issues, work changes, grief, women’s health issues , ademic difficulties , chronic pain, stress management and PTSD .

Amallie has a passion for healing and supporting clients using the following therapies in practice : Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , Dialectical Behavioral Therapy , Gottman Marital Approach , Emotion Focused Therapy , Brief Solution Focused Therapy , Mindfulness Based Practice , Harm Reduction , Family Systems Therapy , Empowerment Model , Psychodynamic Thearpy and Motivational Interviewing Techniques .

Amallie has vast experience working with the community and treating individuals, couples, adolescents and families. She has worked in the ICU and Emergency units in several GTA hospitals (including during the Covid-19 outbreak), working in outpatient and substance treatment facilities, in refugee and domestic violence shelters, and in inpatient hospital settings while supporting clients struggling to rebuild their lives.

Amallie believes in helping clients by walking with them, in their shoes and on their paths as they seek resolutions. She works collaboratively with people and becomes part of their support system as they strive to achieve their goals.

Amallie helps clients express their needs while building strengths and gaining insights into themselves. When clients are empowered in a strong therapeutic relationship, they’ll risk more and make bigger strides towards achieving their goals.

Shahin is a Registered Social Worker with over 15 years of clinical experience. She graduated with both a Bachelors and Masters of Social Work from York University. She is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers. She has experience in Toronto’s hospital system, welfare system and community clinics. Born and raised in Toronto, Shahin has a strong connection to the city and its diverse communities, which continues to inform a culturally responsive and compassionate approach to care. Shahin has worked extensively across high-acuity medical settings, including the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Medicine, Orthopaedics, and Oncology.

Years of hospital-based practice have shaped Shahin’s clinical style to be grounded, supportive, and practical, with a deep understanding of crisis, anxiety, trauma, serious illness, lack of motivation, grief, and life transitions. Shahin is experienced in supporting individuals and families through complex and emotionally demanding situations while fostering resilience and empowerment.

Shahin’s work is guided by a strong value based and culturally sensitive focus. This perspective supports a respectful, non-judgmental, and faith-sensitive approach, recognizing the importance of values, identity, and spirituality in the healing process.
